Ive been in the US twice, and we rented a car there, twice! We saw the prices of your oil and it it 1/4th of the price we pay for oil. Almost everyone in holland can afford a car.
Quote: Compare how much oil we use VS. how much Canada uses per capita... Your argument doesnt hold up. Why are you not bitching about each person in canada using more oil. Maybe its becasue they are not doing somthing you don't happen to like. Your deep seeded, unfounded hatred for a country you've NEVER BEEN TO distorts your views on everything making them logically irratic.
BETA MAX lmfao.... do you even listen to your self.
As I said, ive been to the US twice, and I love the country. Actually, if everything goes well, Im going to the US again next summer.
What I noticed about the cars is that you see tons of pickup truck, 4wd cars, jeeps and all cars have airconditioning. People in the US use the car for everything. The 5 minute walk to the store is done by car, because its much easier that way. You only see couriers drive a bike, hey you actually laugh at holland because we use bikes. If you look at the oil usage per person instead of per country, you'll see that the US (probably alongside Canada, but Canada is almost exactly like the US) inhabitants use a lot more then for instance people in Holland.
Quote: I own a beta max and have lots of movies for it. They look/sound like shit compared to VHS. Ever hear of a little thing called STEREO. The market buys what the market wants not what the US dictates, like some of you may think. It fucking disgusts me the you talk this way about a country you've never been to. Do I talk shit about your country. No. (ok... just a tiny bit below)
As Ive said, ive already been to your country, but have you ever visited a country outside the US (not counting Canada)? Have you actually been in a country that speaks other languages then English?
The market did buy what they want, I mean you said yourself you own a BetaMax, let me quote a piece of a website I encountered.
Quote:
However some consumers chose to buy Betamax because of the higher quality, although the presence of two different formats made people reluctant to buy one or the other in fear of picking the losing machine.
and ofcourse
Quote:
Also in 1978 Sony introduced the Betamax L-750 which contained the first long play videocassette, spanning three hours. This cut prices for consumers making it possible to buy less tapes, and once again opening the market to more consumers.
so BetaMax did have higher quality!

Our average standard of living is higher than a lot of other countries. Thats why many people migrate here every year. Its too bad we all cant be like most of Europe and ignore problems like Hitler until we need someone like the US to bail us out. Its a shame we all can't just pretend nothings wrong, like you.
Wrong, wrong, wrong....
First of all, our house prices are way bigger then yours. For a house you pas 50,000 $ for, we pay 350,000 $ for. Yet their arent many homeless people over here, while the US is flooded with (foreign) homeless people.
Oh, and what happens if your without a job in the US? Youll might live nice for another year, but after that your growing nearer and nearer to losing everything you have and start living on the street. Yet, if you become jobless in Holland, their are tons of agency's that make sure that you dont get to that point. The few homeless people we have, are the result of their own faults, for instance drug usage.
We didnt ignore hitler at all, the US did! When was it that the US decided to help fight in the war, while tons of european soldiers had already died? Was it not when the US was attacked at pearl harbor, that they decided that Hitler was a risk to them as well? Have you ever heard about 'the resistance' ? Did you know that Holland had one of the biggest resistances?
Quote:
You aren't badmouthing Britain. whys that? They agree with the US completely at this point. What about Australia?
Oh, sorry, I tought the discussion was about the US, not other country's. Hey, I can badmouth France for testing nukes, and I can badmouth china for filtering the internet.
Quote:
"...its being invaded by Bush to destroy the 'terrorists'..."
No... it MIGHT be invaded by the US military to destroy Saddam.
Throwing people in jail for making a joke that opposes saddam isn't terrorism? Wake up.
Well, lets see. Its hard to tell what isnt Terrorism... Bush thinks everything is 'an act of terrorism'. And how exactly did bush get his presidential status? Was it not Al Gore, that originally won the elections? And isnt the only reason al gore got less votes, becuase he wanted to stop guns?
Do you own a gun monkey? If you do, why do you need it? Is it to protect yourself against others that also own a gun? |

Same episode, two different countries
I'll use the country i know best, mine
and a nation i dislike, The US.
Episode: someone with an average income gets terminally ill with an "expensive" disease
Iceland: 60%(This used to be 100%, but our right wing cock smoking goverment likes to emulate America in all ways possible) of the medical costs are paid for by the goverment, resulting in higher taxes, sure.. but those are taxes i want to pay because i like the healthcare
America: (Not 100% sure, please correct me if im wrong) around 30-40% of the medical costs are paid for by the patients HMO ( IF HE HAD ONE ), plus, the medical costs themselves are WAY more expensive, as medical supplies are taxed by the goverment
Getting ill in America can make you bankrupt..
(I like to go off topic because it makes hair grow on my chest and stuff!) |

Well, the states have formally asked canada to join this stupid war. And we agreeded to it with out second thought. WTF, theres already be threats by various organizations against canada if we participate. Thats just wrong, since when did my life become worthless, stupid canadian government? Did you hear the comment by audioslaver on the subject? I know there was something along the lines of President Bush should be tryed for War Crimes if he goes though with the war on Iraq and something about the economy in the states going down the tube, coz hes focusing solely on this damn terrorisim thing. I dunno, I just wish Canada would stay out of it, but its hard I guess,

And... Britian dragged us into ww1/ww2, and hey we have 100 % full health care..... But we need to pay for prescriptions, but at least everything affordable (my last perscription was $1.46). And most people pension plans/companies) pay for there perscription. Our universitys arn't fully funded, but why should they be, we pay 25% (like 2 000 canadian /half year) the government coverest the rest. With only 7.9% unimployment and with unimployment insurance (you pay in a certain amount of your wages and when you lose your job, the government gives you 60% of what you used to make for like 6-8 months until you get a job) and welfare, theres not terrible amounts of poverty. And, I still think Canada should just say fuck you to the states, american soldiers kill more canadian soldier then... well.. they just blew up oh.. 4 canadians, and injered like 12 more with there misplaced bomb a few months ago... What a load of crap,
Marianne
