This time of the year is hard on a lot of people. The tabloids and television commercials try to advertise a picture-perfect world. Little Johnny tosses the ball with his smiling, handsome Father in the back yard, and little Emily is in the kitchen with her mother, wearing a pink, lacey dress, smiling and eager to help. Mother is cheerful, busty yet restrained, coating the turkey with juice, honey and butter, with soft, sensuous motions of the brush and a lazy, distracted look in her eye.

I wonder at what abstract ideals this holiday is founded on. I'm sure you've heard all the anti-Thanksgiving propaganda before; so have I. Why in the hell would I want to celebrate a holiday that glorifies genocide and arrogant, white man's greed I'll never know. Yeehaw, Columbus swindled the Indians, stole their land from them, and in the next 300-400 years the red man was decapitated, insulted, stripped of his rights, scalped, forced into Christian schools to wear grey smocks and chant to a foreign virgin mary, had their identity stepped on, and then they were crippled and hobbled onto tiny parcels of land, in a fashion reminiscent of Japanese internment camps. Why is this something I'd want to celebrate?

Happy Turkey Day! :finger:
