Boy left home alone as family went on holiday
A second boy was allegedly left at home alone to fend for himself while his mother flew abroad on holiday.
A 33-year-old from New Mills, Derbyshire, is due to be questioned by police after she boarded a plane to the Canary Islands for a family break without her 11-year-old son.
In a separate incident in London, Jill Parker, 53, was due to undergo psychiatric assessment over Christmas after she was arrested on suspicion of leaving her 12-year-old son, Rufus Polak, home alone for almost two weeks.
It is thought that the Derbyshire family had travelled together to Manchester Airport and were to spend a three-week holiday in Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands.
But the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, did not have a passport.
The mother is alleged to have handed the boy a door key and sent him home in a taxi before flying off for the break with her husband and a second child.
The 11-year-old was spotted getting out of the cab on his own by local residents who contacted police.
The mother returned home from holiday and was being questioned by officers from a family unit based in Buxton, while her son was being cared for by foster parents.
A Derbyshire police spokeswoman said: "A woman will be questioned by police following reports that an 11-year-old boy was left at home alone in New Mills."
The county council said the boy would spend Christmas with the foster parents.
