im gonna jump in here, to defend unix-security from some of the possible criticisms.
point 1
have you ever tried getting 5 or 6 IRC servers, all with different administrators, to change their configuration and put some work in to connect their servers to a different hub. now try to do this in a quick enough time to make the net build together again to keep its users. i didnt think so. this is exactly what had to be done during the time when daisycutter went down.
point 2
unix-security now has a dedicated routing channel and all decisions now have to be approved by a large part of the oper team there. there are also now 2 hubs, one EU and one US, and the servers have been routed to optimise their performance (note: this does not mean eu servers to eu hub, but tracerouting and calculating the best traffic paths)
point 3
ok , netsplits suck over a long period of time, but they are essential when changing routing or building a network. unlike irc-chat, i can guarantee here that 99% of any netsplits are for a good reason, and to provide better services to you, the users.
think im wrong ? tell me to die (i most probably will) |

Well, i won't vote yet. I do think unix-security is a good network.
But, lately, i haven't been there often (yes, i'm getting a life...).
So, the only thing i've noticed is that there's some routing being done... and the chan and nicks were dropped.
Bah, i hope everything's getting in order now...
So, good luck in your rerouting :)
And now, i'm getting back to my whisky. |
