Me and G-force saw the decreasing state of legal-warez and thought we would make a new warez chan #warez-central - we already have 3 fast servers lined up and in time it could become the legal-chat warez channel ?

Why don't you just put those 3 fast servers that you have lined up in legal-warez?

first of all, this is a great sig you've got sv_korn *cough*.
I don't think i want legal-chat to be affiliated to any other warez chans than the original one.
Now, if you want to set these servers into legal-warez, it doesn't really bother me.
And yes, the chan looks quite dead, and it sure is, as there's probably only vlad serving now...
But we haven't done anything to get any new people to serve and i don't think we'll do anything in the future.
Anyways, if you want to do anything in the legal-warez chan, ask me.
If there are any decisions to be made concerning the legal-warez chan, it'll have to be agreed by myself.
I do believe that our chan is only a chat chan and has nothing much related to warez anymore (except in conversation subjects of course).
Think whatever you want about that. |

Bottler is also a good program.
Bit primitive, but it works well.
But unfortunatly i dont have its DL link.
Anyone can fill me in on that? |

Well, my opinon doesnt count much, But Even if you make a seperate channel, why not just try to stay on the same network as legal-chat is. Legal-Chat/Warez may not directly be warez related. But there are a lot of smart people around the channel (No im not talking about myself :p ) and MOST of them are into "warez" related things. I for one would certainly help you in any way i could.
The other option is to go to a different network and start a legal-warez channel. I don't se how having channels on multiple servers could hurt.

Didn't read the post really, nm what I wrote here before!
I can't say I really mind ppl starting a warez chan, but I don't think it will be very succesful, unless it have some special thing to get users to come... Like #winbeta have betas, and that is the only fserver/ftp-chan I know have lots of users... |

to attract users to a channel makes the channel work. if users know you have separate sources for say, games, apps, music, movies and other things, they will go there because they can get a range of good things that interest them. I think this kind of method has the potential to work really well.
for example, if someone decides it would be good to get lots of a certain type of stuff, its not too hard to set up some kind of "object" they can get this stuff from, say a BETAS one, as mentioned earlier. then it can be filled with the stuff, and serve the people who are interested in such, therefore catering for a wide range.
however, such a approach will need the bots filled by a few dedicated people, otherwise the stuff will not be sufficient to attract users and keep them there (with fresh updates, latest releases in categories, new builds, whatever).
[EDIT] also, by specialising in areas, such as betas/*CENSORED**CENSORED**CENSORED**CENSORED* music whatever you can attract a lot of people who like those kind of things, without making the channel all about that type of stuff, which just fucks it up and makes it limited in audience (read: small) [/EDIT]
how to keep these people interested ? who knows ... a choice between power/axx/stuff or more than one most probably ...
however, that scenario may or may not already be covered here on chatterz soon (hint: read around this forum some more)
fserver channels work if you have something to offer those who serve. in 99% of cases, this means access to a dump with good stuff that is at least 10mbit ...
a lot of this post is also relevant in another not too distant thread, mmk ? |

Yeah but bleh
A good warez channel usually flats out at 30-60ppl.
I wouldnt mind that and it is a bit better than p2p because the is more characters and personality (downfall: arguments as seen in #legal-chat at times)
BTW - Shn - I will change my sig - It was a mistake |

a relatively average warez channel that i know idles at around 70-100 people, and has been known to hit 320 at times...
those kind of channels also bring a lot more people into the channels surrounding them i.e #legal-chat
really, any development in this area is good, because if we can get more people onto chatterz, then there is more variety and improvements for all channels.
something to think about ... |

I think it might be possible to get lots of users for a fserver/ftp based warez chan, but, as js says, that requires some kind of reward for serving. So.. pull out a good dump from somewhere, and then you might have a chance of doing it.
And change your sig now or I'll shoot you in the head with a huge ärtbössa! |

Thats what we are hoping for with this chan but the first hurdle we have to overcome is the new user fact - we have to get new ppl to serv and well ... just be in the channel and then it can grow.
I recruited a channel from irc2 but the person just went offline and hasnt been back on (even in Msn Messenger ! )
The channel could work out as long as we got enough people and the good thing is that if one channel brought a lot of people to the network other channels would benefit a lot.
It could even work out with people moving there channels here - but thats just a prediction

Oddduck is quite right.
I guess the only real difference there is with lw is the ownership.
Dunno how the warez chan is doing now, and i certainly don't care.
Maybe we should reopen lw ;)
