Wired News reports that Saddam Hussein's son Uday maintains a Yahoo e-mail account. Visitors to Babil, Iraq's newspaper, can e-mail him at udaysaddamhussein@yahoo.com. Uday did not return e-mails sent to this account asking for comment.
Rob Nichols, a US Treasury Dept. spokesman, states that Yahoo could be violating US sanctions. He says: "It is against U.S. law to provide services to residents of Iraq, even if it is a free account. And the provider should cut off the account."
Robert David Steele, a former CIA agent, says: "I would say that the U.S. government is probably reading everything in that account and is quite happy that Uday has that e-mail." Uday has another account but Wired did not find much in his inbox. |
